Pre-Operative Instructions
What to do before surgery:
All surgeries are different so check with Highlander Surgical Associates and Dr. Harrison before your procedure for any specific instruction. The following guidelines should help you prepare for your surgery day.
If you are having a colonoscopy, refer to the Colonoscopy Prep Instructions here.
Diet:
You will most likely be placed on a clear liquid diet the day before surgery. Tea, any juice, sports drinks/electrolyte replacements, popsicles, Jell-O, water or flavored water, soup, coffee, etc. are allowed. Avoid any solid foods.
Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the day before your surgery.
What to wear to your procedure:
Comfortable, loose, clothes are best to wear to and from the facility. Yes, PJ’s are acceptable.
Driver:
Make sure you have a driver to take you to and from Highland Surgical Associates office and who can remain at the facility for the duration of your visit.
Abdominal hernia surgeries/ colon surgeries:
Although you will be given an abdominal binder at the facility, you are encouraged to purchase another one so they can be changed out. For Inguinal (groin) hernia surgeries look for slightly tighter than normal fitting compression shorts like biking shorts/spandex shorts. This will give support and decrease normal post op swelling.
