BREAST CANCER

Breast-conserving surgery
Mastectomy
Lymph node removal
BREAST CONSERVATION (Lumpectomy)
Breast-conserving surgery (BCS), also known as a lumpectomy, is a procedure to remove cancer or abnormal tissue from the breast while leaving as much normal tissue as possible. The amount of tissue removed depends on the size and location of the tumor. Other types of breast-conserving surgery include quadrantectomy, partial mastectomy, and segmental mastectomy. The surgeon may also remove some lymph nodes under the arm to check for spread.
MASTECTOMY
A mastectomy is a surgical procedure to remove breast tissue to treat or prevent breast cancer. It can also involve removing other nearby tissues, such as lymph nodes, skin, or the areola. There are different types of mastectomies, including unilateral (removing one breast) and bilateral (removing both breasts). A simple mastectomy, also known as a total mastectomy, is often performed when cancer is contained within the breast or as a preventative measure.
